Board and Faculty
The board and faculty of Faith Academy are dedicated to excellence in education and student development. Our faculty members are uniquely qualified and passionate in their respective fields of study. They care deeply about students, education, family, and spiritual development.
Deanna Agpoon is the founder of Faith Academy and a member of its board of directors. She is married to Mark Agpoon and has five children, all currently living at home. Deanna has been successfully educating her children at home for the past five years, desiring most of all to please God. This desire has led to many volunteer opportunities to reach out to the community and other families in need at Pathway Church, His Helping Hands, the Lord’s Diner, and to tutor students with learning disabilities. She has helped co-host seminars in advanced studies of phonemic awareness. Deanna is certified as an instructor in the SWR (Spell to Write and Read) phonics program and has a certification from the Dyslexia Training Institute. Though she is pleased to have membership in the National Association of Professional Women, her firm resolve has always been for her family to serve the Lord, which is the impetus for starting a west-side, private Christian school – Faith Academy. Frequently, Deanna will be the point of contact or first-face for many who make inquiry into the mission and operation of our school. You will not note a lack of passion. She is all in.
Jami Berggren is the first grade teacher for Faith Academy. She has been married to her husband, Quinton, since 2015. Jami believes that she has been blessed with the opportunity to teach at Faith Academy and that the Lord gives us a great honor to watch over, educate, and find one of the purest forms of His love through children giving us a very small window to instill the love of Christ, as well as, experience Christ’s love in a unique way as parents and teachers.
James DeVries teaches Logic and Algebra to the 8th and 9th grades as well as Pre-Logic, Pre-Algebra, and English to the 6th and 7th grades. After graduating from Sterling College, Jim and his wife Lynn taught five years at Sunshine Bible Academy in South Dakota. When their eldest of four sons was ready to start school, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where Jim taught in established Christian schools until 1990 when he, Lynn, and several other former colleagues helped start Valley Christian High School. In 1994 they moved to Hutchinson where Jim taught at Central Christian High School until going to South Korea in 2001 where Lynn and Jim served in various capacities at three schools–Handong International School (for children of Korean missionaries), Handong Global University, and Handong International Law School–that shared a campus north of the port city of Pohang. Returning to Hutchinson in 2006, Jim again taught at CCS until coming to the Classical School of Wichita in 2014. Since their move to Wichita, Jim and Lynn attend First Evangelical Free Church. As was the case at Valley Christian High School and the three schools in Korea, the “pioneering” aspect of Faith Academy is exciting for Jim.
