Faith Academy is proud to offer a Mock Trial class to its students, and this year the class is receiving instruction from two full-time attorneys. Jasmine Fields and Kimberlyn Gilchrist, both of DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers, take time out of their full-time jobs to provide real world experience to the Mock Trial class.
In the class, students have the opportunity to learn how to stage a mock trial to resolve a hypothetical dispute. They will develop an understanding of the trial process, the roles of those in the courtroom and their importance to the administration of justice, and the significance of their constitutional protections.
The Mock trial class teaches essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and the art of forming a persuasive and cohesive argument. In mock trial, students demonstrate their ability to think within an adversarial system in front of a judge and their peers.
It is the combination of interaction between students and the public nature of mock trial that make it extremely well suited to teaching thinking, speaking, and listening skills.
Recently, members of the Mock Trial class had the chance to experience a live Mock Trial Competition in the Sedgwick County Courthouse! We are excited for our students to compete in the future, and are thankful to have Jasmine and Kimberlyn leading our students.
